My  profile can be found here. As of 9 January 2024, my Google Scholar citations=38,400+ (h-index=47; i1000=9; i100=36; citations/paper=650+; n=59 papers and 1 thesis) and SCOPUS citations=18,200+ (h-index=38; i1000=3; i100=25; self-citations <0.68%). As of Nov 2018, I have the Highest Google Scholar citations and Highest SCOPUS citations in HKUST business school. I also contributed the most business school citations for the 2016 to 2021 QS World University Ranking (SciVal-HKUST library has since stopped subscription to this module). I am among the Top 1% of authors for all-time downloads in SSRN (#747 out of 1,505,781+ authors). Some of my papers are award-winning or highly-cited with multiple papers among the top-10 (MISQ, JMIS, JAIS), top-20 or top-30 most-cited in their respective journals. My MISQ (2012) paper is the only business school publication listed 4th in the Top-20 Highly Cited Papers by HKUST authors for all papers ever published by a HKUST-affiliated author (out of 61,200+ publications, Scopus). One of my papers is included in: "Out of some 51 million papers [from 1970 to 2020 in the Web of Science], only 5,700 papers have been cited 2,000 or more times, or just .01%. Nobel laureates typically have published one or more papers cited 2,000 or more times." (Clarivate Web of Science, 2020). I am ranked among the Top 2% of Scientists in the World [60th (excluding self-citations) and 64th (all citations) of 17,784 faculty in the field of "Information Systems"; 15th (excluding self-citations) of 147 HKUST faculty in all fields based on the Stanford-SCOPUS database ranking for citations between 1996-2022 for articles published since 1960] (Ioannidis, J.P.A. 2023); and listed in the University of Arizona's "The H Index for Management Information Systems (2024)" since its inaugural listing in 2010; and in the "H-Index for Computer Science [2020, 2021]".

Background

Presently, I am the Michael Jebsen Professor of Business and Chair Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management (ISOM), School of Business and Management (SBM), at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). I have served 12 years on the HKUST Business School Administrative Committee (SAC) and the committee of SBM department heads from 2005-2017.  I have served as Department Head (Aug 2011-July 2017) and Deputy Head (Aug 2005-July 2011) of ISOM. The IS group was ranked #10 worldwide for publications in the Top-2 IS journals (MISQ and ISR) for 2013-2017 and 2015-2017. During my term as Head/Deputy Head, I oversaw the rebound in BBA-IS majors from a low of 2006 (n=68) to all time high of 2009 (n=190 per intake), and 2010-2017 (n=180 Year 3 & 180 Year 4 each year); with BBA-IS one of the highest enrolled Business School's programs. I oversaw the MScISM part-time program curriculum and course assignment/scheduling from 2005-2017, introduced the MScISM full-time program, helped to develop the new MSc. in Business Analytics (MSBA), introduced two BBA-IS options (i.e., Business Analytics; IS Auditing) in 2016, and among the first department to offer blended learning courses (and currently the most number of blended learning courses in SBM). By the end of my headship, I accumulated a reserve >HKD15 million for the IS group. I also served as the co-director of the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management, a university elite UG program for top students in School of Engineering, from Feb 2010-Dec 2016. I received my Ph.D. in Information Systems, a M.Sc. in Information Systems (research degree), and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Computer Science from the Department of Information Systems, School of Computing, at the National University of Singapore. Before pursuing graduate studies, I was with the technological planning department of DBS Bank in Singapore.

I am a recipient of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow Award which was presented at ICIS in Dublin, Ireland, on 12 December 2016. I utilize survey and experiment methodologies in my research. My research on technology adoption and implementation, e-government, human-computer interaction, computer ethics, and IT in small business has appeared in various IS, HCI, Public Administration, Information Science, OR, and Telecommunications journals including Information Systems Research (ISR), MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Journal of Management Information Systems (JMIS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Information & Management, Information Systems Frontiers, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Public Administration Review, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), Information Processing & Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Operations Management, OMEGA, Telecommunications Policy, INFO, IEEE Communications, and Communications of the ACM. Currently, I have 24 papers published/forthcoming in 4 of the top IS journals (ISR, MISQ, JMIS, JAIS).

My research has also appeared in various refereed conference proceedings including International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences (HICSS), International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) WG8.6, European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), and ACM SIGCPR. I am an adhoc reviewer for Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, and Management Science, among others.
